Lifting masts

The different types of mast

Simplex forklift mast

(or duplex mast with free lift)

  • Featuring a single profile*.
  • Trucks with this mast can only lift objects to a specific limit.
  • Lifting capacity is determined by the length of the ladder.

Duplex forklift mast

  • Made up of two sections: one fixed and one mobile.
  • Versions are available with and without high free-lift capacity**.
  • Versions without a large free-lift have a small lifting capacity, enabling the object to be lifted just above the ground for moving.
  • A special cylinder allows the equipment support to rise to the top of the ladder before the mast extends.

Triplex forklift masts

  • Increasingly common these days.
  • Equipped with three sections: one fixed and two mobile, offering greater lifting height.
  • These masts usually have a large free lift.

Quadruplex forklift mast

  • Includes four sections.
  • Operators of these forklifts receive special training to handle them at very high heights

Note:
* a “profile” refers to a section or segment of the mast that can slide or move with other sections. These profiles enable the mast to extend vertically to lift loads to different heights. The more profiles there are, the higher the mast can reach. Each profile slides inside or outside the others, allowing the mast to extend or retract.
** Free lift” in the forklift context refers to the truck’s ability to raise its forks (and therefore the load) to a certain height without increasing the overall height of the mast. In other words, it’s the maximum height the forks can be raised before the mast begins to extend.
